CellPro Labs offers two cell culture media types, Eagles Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) and Chlamydia Isolation Medium (CIM), to support your cell culture and viral isolation and detection needs.
MEM includes higher concentrations of 12 essential amino acids so that the medium more closely approximates the protein composition of mammalian cells. MEM has been used for cultivation of a wide variety of cells grown in monolayers. MEM can be supplemented with Fetal Bovine Serum, antimicrobial supplements, HEPES and glucose.
CIM is MEM with the addition of Cycloheximide and Glucose. Cycloheximide is added to control fungi and yeast contamination. Glucose, a carbon and energy source, enhances the growth and isolation of Chlamydia.
Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is derived from clotted blood. FBS delivers nutrients, growth and attachment factors and protects cells from oxidative damage and apoptosis.
Antimicrobial supplements are used to prevent bacteria, fungal and yeast contamination of cell cultures. Penicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria. Gentamicin destabilizes the bacterial cell membrane of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Streptomycin is a protein synthesis inhibitor that inhibits growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Amphotericin B forms channels in the cell membranes of fungi and yeasts.
HEPES (N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N-2-ethane sulfonic acid) is added to increase the buffer strength of the medium and raise the maximum buffering range when cell culture requires extended periods of manipulation outside of a CO2 incubator.
|Cell Culture Media Name||FBS||Antimicrobial Supplement||
|MEM-0||0%||•||•||•||•||•||Eagles Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is offered with various percentages of Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) to promote the growth and/or maintenance of cell monolayers.|
|CIM-10||10%||•||•||•||•||•||•||Chlamydia Isolation Medium (CIM) is for the maintenance of cells in Chlamydia cultures.|
All media is made fresh each week and has a 1 month shelf life.
Media is normally shipped Monday, delivered Tuesday and can be placed on standing order or ordered as needed.
